Chub AI lets you reverse-proxy any OpenAI-compatible endpoint through its `Secrets` panel. Pair it with the OpenAI / Proxy preset and pick a FreeTheAi model.

Step by step

Connect Chub AI to FreeTheAi.

    Open the chat menu

    Open any character's chat, click the three lines in the top right.

    Open Secrets > OpenAI

    Click `Secrets`, expand the `OpenAI` section, and switch the access toggle from `My Own API Key` to `Reverse Proxy`.

    Fill the proxy fields

    Use these exact values. Click `Check Proxy` to confirm the connection.

    Configure prompt structure

    Open `Configuration` from the same menu, expand `Prompt Structure`, set API to `OpenAI / Proxy`, and pick your FreeTheAi alias as the model.

    Save and chat

    Save the preset (or create a new one) and start chatting. The same model alias works on every Chub character.

Heads up

Common gotchas.

  • Chub's model dropdown can show models that do not actually exist on FreeTheAi. Always use exact aliases from `https://freetheai.xyz/models`.
  • Do not put your OpenAI API key in the Reverse Proxy Key field, only your FreeTheAi key.
  • After updating the proxy URL, refresh the chat page so Chub picks up the new endpoint.
